Life’s Ups and Downs

I have been remiss about keeping up with my blog and website. I am sorry but life has been filled with ups and downs.

I stopped working for almost a year but went back to work at PEAK Performance Therapy in Sequim which is a small outpatient clinic. I have very much enjoyed working with patients and very nice and knowledgeable colleagues.

We lost Kiska but have adopted a lovely black German Shepherd named Salish. He has been a delight, when he is not being a weapon in the car or when someone he does not know comes to the house.

My husband has been doing well with his prostate cancer treatments. However, at his last visit for this in early March, he showed his medical oncologist a small lump he found under his jaw bone. The oncologist told him it was likely a salivary stone and recommended sucking on lemon drops or sour candies. He was sent for an Ultrasound. After sucking on lemon drops, he was sent for a biopsy of the tumor.

We saw the medical oncologist, Dr. Lemon after sucking on lemon drops (which is hilarious!) for 2-3 weeks to find out that Eric has MYC and BCL6 making it a double hit high grade B-cell lymphoma. He has had several tests and a Port placed for chemo. He was seen in Seattle at Swedish and Fred Hutch where both oncologist's excluded him from the trials in our area.

They are still conferring about him with the Sequim Cancer Center (Dr. Lemon) and Fred Hutch, and pathologists from the University of Washington (IW) and Incyte. They are awaiting the final results from his pathology which is expected on 5/29.

It is hoped that he can start the R-CHOP chemo on June 5th. Thankfully, he will be able to do that at the cancer center in Sequim so it is only a 30-minute trip instead for 2-1/2 hours to Seattle.

I have reduced my hours at PEAK Performance Therapy to 20 hours a week until the end of June and then plan to take a sabbatical. That will give me time to be with Eric and help him as best I can. I will be able to determine if I will go back to work after he has completed a few cycles of chemo.

I am droning on, so I will save the rest for another post. For now, the piper is down but we hope he will regain his energy soon. He has been Bagpiping very little these days.
